Apocalypse: The Second Coming
“Ozes, ozes, ozes ooohhhh” I turn on my bed and saw my mum sitting beside me.
Me: good morning ma
Mum: good morning, is almost six, are you not traveling again?
Me: of course I am, I overslept
Mum: yes, you better stand up and go get ready (she said as she walk away fromy room.
Am traveling to Lagos to go visit ogijio the carpenter, my long time friend who now lives in Lagos, he is responsible for all the bad things I learnt in life, he is a good friend and since am not going into school yet I thought maybe I should go visit him and learn some work in Lagos before taking jamb, the journey will be a long one I guess.
I turn around and say my morning prayer, I stood up to go take my bath, after everything I told my mum am ready, she prayed for me and then give me money for transport and other things, she told me to be careful in Lagos, I left around 6:30 in the morning, I took a bike from ogute to afuze #50 and then board owan East going to Benin city, from Benin I will enter iyare bus going to Lagos.
We drive away from afuze after the last passenger enter, am sitting at the front sit with the driver and one other passenger, am at the middle, our bus move gently away from afuze as we enter evbiamen town when we get to the bridge where everything happened last time suddenly we heard a heavy sound at the back of our bus, our bus had broken down.
We all came down as the driver try to repair the bus.
“We never even go far, bus done spoil”
“Oga driver why you no service this bus before we enter road na?”
“This one go fit reach Benin so?”
Complains coming from different angle, I didn’t do anything I went to one part of the bridge and sat down, I was looking down the bridge as the water flow gently, I remember when invisible leg was chasing me in the night, so many experience in this bridge that I quickly turn my face away from the river,.
I didn’t want to look at the river again as I concentrate on our driver fixing the bus, I heard a sound coming from the river, I didn’t want to look but something keep pushing me to look, I decided to look down and then I saw a small folded nylon on top the water, it just stand still not flowing not moving as if something is holding it from down, I wasn’t shock but I dont know what to do, I can’t go down there to take it because the river is very deep, I keep looking at it as something keep telling me to go down and take it, I just won’t.
“Oya make una they enter I done fix am” the driver said.
Finally, I said on my mind as we enter the bus and speed off again.
We enter Benin city around eleven, everywhere was busy.
